ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the effect of chemotherapy combined with sodium cantharidinate vitamin B6 injection in the patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and its effect on the patients' quality of life, and to clarify its mechanism. Methods: A total of 110 NSCLC patients were divided into chemotherapy group and combined group according to the different treatment methods adopted by the patients. A total of 55 patients were treated with chemotherapy alone (chemotherapy group) and 55 patients treated with chemotherapy combined with sodium cantharidate vitamin B6 injection (combined group). The total effective rate of the patients in two groups were compared; EORTC QLO-C43 scale was used to evaluate the quality of life of the patients in two groups before and after treatment; the serum levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-a), and interleukin-12 (IL-12) of the patients in two groups before and after treatment were detected by double-antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunoassay method. Results: After treatment, the total effective rate of the patients in combined group was higher than that in chemotherapy group, but the difference was not statistically significant (χ2 = 0.806, P= 0.369). Before treatment, there were no significant differences in the scores of functional scale, overall health status, symptom subscale and lung cancer specific subscale of the patients between combined group and chemotherapy group (P>0. 05). After treatment, the scores of functional scale and overall health status of the patients in combined group were significantly higher than those in chemotherapy group (P0. 05). After treatment, the serum level of VEGF of the patients in combined group was significantly lower than that in chemotherapy group (χ2= 3. 608, P<0. 05), and the serum levels of TNF-a and IL-12 were significantly higher than those in chemotherapy group (t= 3.426, P<0.05; t= 2.849, P < 0. 05). Conclusion: The effect of chemotherapy combined with sodium cantharidate vitamin B6 injection in the treatment of the NSCLC patients is good, and it can significantly improve the quality of life of the patients; its mechanism may be related to decreasing the serum VEGF level and increasing the serum TNF-α and IL-12 levels.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the effects of sodium cantharidinate and vitamin B6 (SCAVB6) on cell proliferation, apoptosis and invasion of hepatic cancer cell line SMMC-7721 as well as the expression of heparanase (HPA). Methods: After treatment with 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 μg/mL SCAVB6 for 24, 48 and 72 h, the cell proliferation was detected by MTT assay. The cell apoptosis, invasion ability and the expression levels of HPA mRNA and protein of SMMC-7721 cells after treatment with 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 μg/mL SCAVB6 for 48 h were examined by flow cytometry (FCM), Transwell cell invasion assay, RT-PCR and Western blotting, respectively. Results: SCAVB6 could inhibit the proliferation of SMMC-7721 cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner (P < 0.05). The apoptotic rate of SMMC-7721 cells after treatment with SCAVB6 for 48 h was higher than that of the SMMC-7721 cells without any treatment, but the invasion ability was weakened (both P < 0.05). The expression levels of HPA mRNA and protein in SMMC-7721 cells after treatment with 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 μg/mL SCAVB6 were lower than those in the SMMC-7721 cells without any treatment, and this inhibition effect was in a dose-dependent manner (all P < 0.05). Conclusion: SCAVB6 can inhibit the proliferation and invasion of SMMC-7721 cells. This effect may be related to the inhibition of expression of HPA.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the effect of sodium cantharidinate and vitamin B6 injection on plasma D-dimer level in patients of advanced esophageal cancer after chemotherapy and the relationship between plasma D-dimer level and clinical pathological parameters thereof. Methods Fifty-eight patients with advanced esophageal cancer confirmed by path-ological examination were randomly divided into two groups. Twenty-nine patients (experimental group) received chemother-apy (PF chemotherapy) combined with sodium cantharidinate and vitamin B6 (0.5 mg once daily). Twenty-nine patients (con-trol group) received same volume of saline. And there were 20 healthy volunteers as the normal control. The plasma D-dimer level was determined one day before the first cycle of chemotherapy and the third cycle of treatment. Results The plasma D-dimer level was significantly higher before chemotherapy in patients with advanced esophageal cancer than that in normal control group (P<0.05). There were no significant differences in plasma D-dimer level between patient gender, age, clinical stage and pathological levels. The D-dimer level was significantly down-regulated after chemotherapy. The D-dimer level was significantly lower in experimental group than that in control group (P<0.05). The incidences of digestive and hemato-logical adverse reactions were much lower in experimental group than those in control group. Conclusion The elevated plasma D-dimer level was found in patients with advanced esophageal cancer, and which was down-regulated by chemother-apy. The chemotherapy of sodium cantharidinate and vitamin B6 can further reduce the D-dimer level, and relieve the ad-verse reactions of chemotherapy.
